On Friday 24th February Wantage Tennis Club held an evening of laughter, music, and dance in order to raise funds for the Disability Tennis programme. It was hosted at the Comrades Club who kindly provided their premises free of charge.
About 100 people were entertained by local covers band The Connection, with club member John Smythe wielding a guitar rather than a tennis racket on this occasion. Comedy was provided by poet and raconteur Tina Sederholm of Edingburgh Fringe fame. Tina delivered a sharply observed & witty set “Till Debt Us Do Part”.
Wantage Tennis Club Coach Andy Aitken is passionate about developing Disability Tennis Coaching at Wantage Tennis Club. The most well known versions are deaf, learning disability, wheelchair and visually impaired tennis.
The evening’s fund raising was kick-started by the presentation of a cheque from club sponsors Douglas & Simmons Estate Agents, & overall more than a £500 was raised.
